Wall sawing, also called track sawing

Wall sawing for doors, windows and HVAC openings in Huntsville and across Alabama

A track-mounted, remote-controlled saw opens concrete and brick walls for windows, doorways, HVAC access and elevator shafts, cut flush and finished with a cut-n-break saw.

Where wall openings go wrong

A wall opening fails at the corners. A blade is round, so a cut that runs to the corner of a rectangle leaves the inside corner short, and the usual fix is to keep cutting past the line. That's an over-cut, and it leaves a notch in the wall that stays there. Ragged edges come from hand-guided saws that drift off the line as the blade works deeper.

Wall sawing, also called track sawing, exists to get around both. Osborn Concrete Cutting in Huntsville cuts openings in concrete and brick walls for new windows, doorways, HVAC access and elevator shafts, working with methods that avoid over-cuts in corners.

A saw on a track, run from across the room

The saw rides a track, hydraulic or electric, bolted to the wall and run by remote control. Because the operator isn't standing behind the machine, it gets into small spaces, and the track holds the line straight from the first inch to the last.

It can cut flush with a slab or a perpendicular wall, which is how a doorway lands at the floor or a window sits tight against the adjoining wall. Top cuts run long at the corners and are finished with a "cut-n-break" saw so the lintel can be installed over a clean opening. Track sawing works on bricks, concrete, piers and pylons, on commercial and residential jobs across Alabama.

The craft behind all of it is wet cutting: water on the blade keeps it cool and carries the slurry off the face, which is why a good wall cut is a clean, straight line instead of a scorched one.

A clean room when the wall is open

A wall opening isn't done when the piece comes out. The slurry gets cleaned up, the floor is swept and whatever sits on the other side of the wall is still intact. Osborn puts it simply: "We always leave the work area clean and free of damage."
