Wire Sawing

Wire sawing for the concrete a blade can't reach

For concrete a blade cannot reach. Steel-encased concrete, retaining walls and heavy rebar, cut by a diamond-infused wire in any direction. Minimal vibration and noise.

When a blade is the wrong tool

A conventional saw has a blade, and a blade has a radius. When the piece is too large for that radius, too strong for the cut to start cleanly, or the workspace is too confined to swing a saw into, the job doesn't get easier by pushing harder. It needs a different cut.

That's the call we make from Huntsville when an Alabama job turns up a pier, a footing or a wall that a track or flat saw can't straddle. Wire sawing is built for segmenting and removing large chunks of reinforced concrete, one section at a time, so the pieces are small enough to lift out.

Steel-encased concrete is where it earns its keep. The wire doesn't care what's inside the pour, and it keeps cutting through concrete retaining walls and heavy rebar where a blade would bind or stall.

How the wire does the cutting

The wire is diamond-infused and it cuts by abrasion. It's looped around the piece, run under tension, and drawn through the concrete with cooling water on it. There's no blade diameter to run out of, so the cut can go any part, in any direction.

We set the loop and the drive to suit the geometry, not the other way round. A retaining wall gets cut into stackable segments. A heavily reinforced section gets sized so each piece can leave the site without a second pass.

If the concrete is under water, that doesn't stop the work. The wire performs in challenging environments, underwater included.

What you notice afterward

Minimal vibration and noise. For a building that's still occupied, or a structure you can't afford to shake, that is often the whole reason to choose wire over a conventional saw. The impact on the surroundings is small, and so is the environmental footprint.

We always leave the work area clean and free of damage. Slurry gets managed, the cut faces come out straight, and the segments are ready to be hauled.

If you're not sure whether your piece needs a wire, describe it and call (256) 489-7514. We will tell you straight whether it's a wire job or a job for a track or flat saw.
